W. Hill Evans began practicing law in 1980 after receiving his BA from Wake Forest University and his JD from the Wake Forest University School of Law. A native of Marion, Hill continues to serve in numerous leadership positions throughout McDowell County. He is a member of the McDowell County Bar Association and is licensed to practice in North Carolina state courts.
Ellen M. Shelley is a native of Greenwood, SC, who received her BA from the University of South Carolina and her JD from Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham, Alabama. Ellen served as student body president and a director of Cumberland's trial advocacy board in law school. Ellen works primarily in District Court handling civil, criminal, equitable distribution and divorce, child custody and visitation, juvenile, child support, abuse/neglect/dependency and termination of parental rights cases. Ellen also practices in Superior Court in civil and criminal matters, and represents clients in special proceedings before the Clerk of Court. She is a member of the McDowell County Bar Association and is licensed to practice in North Carolina state courts.
Wesley R. Shelley is a native of Raleigh, NC, and graduated from the University of South Carolina undergraduate and the University of Mississippi School of Law. He served as a founding member and senior articles editor of the Mississippi Sports Law Review, and his articles have been published in multiple law journals across the country. Wes served as a volunteer clerk for Judge Robert C. Hunter at the North Carolina Court of Appeals before joining Evans & Shelley, PA. He is a member of the McDowell County Bar Association and is licensed to practice in North Carolina state courts.
Melissa Miller initially worked with W. Hill Evans, PA, from June 1995 to November 1998, prior to working with the Dameron, Burgin, Parker, Jackson, Wilde & Walker firm for more than 14 years. Since her return to Evans & Shelley, PA in June 2014 she assists attorneys in all of our practice areas. Melissa is an NC Certified Paralegal and enjoys interacting with clients.
Kay Silvers has decades of experience working in Real Estate law, previously working with Robert A. "Tony" Yancey before joining Evans & Shelley, PA in 2017. Kay is an NC Certified Paralegal and works primarily with the firm's Real Estate practice.
Wanda B. McKinney previously worked in a number of legal areas for the McDowell County Clerk of Court before joining Evans & Shelley, PA in 2016. Wanda assists in many of the firm's practice areas, from Estates and special proceedings to civil litigation matters.
